Obama, the Failed Communist

Much political hay has been made over the past two years about Obama the Communist, especially after the Government bailout/takeover of General Motors. But Obama has failed at his alleged goal of keeping the auto giant nationalized, as the Treasury Department is now poised to offer its stock to the public in an IPO scheduled for November 18. The IPO will reduce the Federal Government's stake from 61% to around…

Thoughts on Freedom Pub Conversations

Why do you come to Freedom Pub? Are you here to expand your knowledge about government, policy and taxation? Are you here to talk to other people? Are you here to have your ideas challenged and/or improved? For me, it "Yes," "Yes," and "Yes." I come here to be exposed to new ideas, challenge those ideas, and have my ideas challenged. I come here to interact.

I think my…

March to Keep Fear Alive / Rally to Restore Sanity

On a lighter note, Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert are holding competing rallies in Washington DC on October 30th.

"America, the Greatest Country God ever gave Man, was built on three bedrock principles: Freedom. Liberty. And Fear -- that someone might take our Freedom and Liberty. But now, there are dark, optimistic forces trying to take away our Fear -- forces with salt and pepper hair… Continue

Cato Institute Runs Full Page Ad for Small Government

I saw Cato's ad (pdf) on the back page of Section A of the LA Times on Friday, September 18. It probably ran in many other major markets. In it they call for Obama to make good on his pledge to go through the budget line by line and cut needless spending. While recognizing that the problem is bipartisan in origin, they have identified $500 billion that can be trimmed. Of course, some of this either will never fly (e.g. Farm Subsidies,… Continue

Ground Zero Mosque Investor In It For The Money

The majority investor in the Ground Zero Mosque & Community Center, Hisham Elzanaty, recently indicated a willingness to sell part of the property if the price was right, saying, "I'm a businessman. This was a mere business transaction for me."…

History Lesson: Dept of Education, Conrail, and Communist Books

Alan Caruba recently posted a very thought provoking essay on the Federal Government's involvement in the education system. For the most part, I agree with his stance that locally controlled school districts provide a better model for effecting consequential results in K-12 education. Bureaucrats in Washington are going to necessarily know less about what will work in a particular…

Correcting Misconceptions about Keynes and History

I responded to Caruba's post about the NJ teachers, Keynes and Roosevelt to clear up a couple of misconceptions. I don't think the comment will survive the rigorous screening process associated with his blog, so I will re-post it here. (Italics are quotes from his post.)

The Keynesian notion that a government can spend its way out of a deficit is, one hopes, now…

The Insanity of Birther Claims

Alan Caruba keeps deleting my comments, so I have to respond to his preposterous birther claims here. It's unfortunate that he can't stand up to comments critical of his position, but given the utter lack of foundation in reality that his position has, I suppose it's not very surprising.

Obama is not an American.
You're wrong. Besides your incorrect notion of what…

Obama Continues Bush's Quest for an Energy Efficient and Independent Air Force

Back in 2005, under President George W. Bush, the Department of Defense the world's biggest consumer of oil, launched an initiative to reduce its reliance on the black gold. Consuming somewhere between 300 and 400 thousand barrels per day, the USAF calculated… Continue
