Make Mine Freedom (1948)

"What a great video, James. Thanks so much for finding this and sharing it with The Pub. Interesting to note, as I'm sure you've thought of ... George Orwell's 1984 was published the next year."

Obama Opposes Pro-life Efforts in Healthcare Reform

President Obama and abortion advocates in the Senate plan to remove pro-life language in the healthcare reform bill that passed the House on November 7. Their guns are aimed at the Stupak Amendment, a measure that ensures taxpayers' money will not fund abortions. The amendment prohibits insurance plans in the socialized exchange set up by Obamacare from covering abortion. Advocates of the amendment say it merely maintains the status quo begun by the Hyde Amendment, a rider renewed annually since…See More

Don't Let Feds Control Local Education

A standardized national curriculum wouldn’t make California’s kids smarter or well equipped to compete in the global economy, or even better citizens. But a national, one-size-fits-all curriculum would be highly political, beset by special interest lobbying, and almost certainly diluted by teachers unions and education bureaucrats unaccountable to parents and voters.

Lehr down under

World News Australia on the SNS Broadcasting Network ran a 5-minute report Aug. 12 on how australian global warming skeptics are teaming with Heartland to battle the Australian government’s proposed cap-and-trade scheme. The program gave Jay and Bob Carter a couple minutes before turning over the camera to Greenpeace and a government spokesman with the usual non-rebuttal about flat-earthers.

Science Director Lehr Reports from Down Under

CHICAGO (Aug. 11, 2009) – Heartland Institute Science Director Jay Lehr, Ph.D. is on 15-city tour of Australia in advance of the Australian government's vote later this week on an emissions trading scheme similar to the cap-and-trade bill pending in the U.S. Congress.

Both pieces of legislation would impose a tax on emissions of carbon dioxide and cap emissions at a certain level. Businesses could buy permits to emit above their capped level, but that level gradually would…
